Practices (a.k.a. Team Meetings)
Coaches and/or Student Captains will run the team meetings/practices with support from the mentors. Team Members are expected to actively participate in team meetings.
During the 6 week build season, practices will be held every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Build season practices will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m. during the weekdays and 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
During the month between the “Bag and Tag” and the competitions, practices are tentatively Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-5:00 p.m. Some sub-teams may need to meet more.
Cell phones, MP3 players and other hand-held devices
As they are good for keeping in touch with others, cell phones can also be distracting to someone near you and during the meetings. We ask that you move or leave the room to use cell phones during all meetings. When possible keep it on vibrate or turn off the phone completely.
Music players, headphones, game machines and other devices impair communication. Students are to not use these devices at team functions (including all practices and competitions) without prior approval from the head coach.
Food and drinks
When working near any electrical/electronics or at competition in the pit area, open fluids should be kept away in case of accidental spillage. Only re-sealable containers should be used for all beverages and those that are not, should be outside and away from the robot, its components, electronics, computers and crate.
Red Storm robotics will open the build space even when there is a snow day. If students cannot get to the Build Space safely, they are advised to please stay home. Students will not be charged with an unexcused absence if the school is closed because of weather. If your family agrees that you can travel safely, please come out because we will have coaches and mentors there and a robot that needs designing or assembling.
Family Brings a Meal
Every family is asked to bring at least four snacks during the build season or contribute $50. Mentors and students work very hard during this time, and it is important for them to be well nourished. The team has very high goals and needs all the support it can get.
Snack includes water and a healthy snack for 30 people. The snack provided is up to each family.
